Apparently under:

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools

there should be a 'Backup' pick.

Well I can't find it. I've looked at my XP Home CD to see if I need to add it to the standard install but cannot find it.

Would someone please tell me where it is. I don't mean system restore, I was told there is a backup tool.

Thanks,

Ape

XP Home doesn't install it by default. On the CD go to:

ValueADD/MSFT/NTBackup/NTBackup.MSI

Thanks for all your help.

It isn't listed under the extras you can add. I installed it by following the path you recommended.

Thanks for your help,

So, Question 2:

Why won't it let me backup to my CDR. I have a blank disk in the drive & keep getting:

The Backup file name could not be used.
"G:\Backup.bkf"
Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access

Thanks for any help,

Ape

IMHO, NTBackup is a week backup utility. And, they will actually tell you that themselves, but not quite in those words. MS says that the problem you're having is "by design".

<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315255" target="_new">Windows Backup Does Not Back Up to CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R Devices</A>

In other words, what they are saying is, use something else to backup your computer. And, IMO, you should use something else. Personally, I use Ghost. Others here will tell you Drive Image or some other hard drive imageing utility. The important thing is that you get the best you can afford, and then actually use it, and use it often.
