Wanting to put some bigger speakers in a cabinet of mine. Of course
they have larger magnets on them and will only be about 6 inches above
the monitor. Is there any way of shielding the magnets from the
monitor. Or are there speakers made to use with arcade games that
won't mess with the monitor?

What I usually use to boost or replace arcade speakers is computer
speakers. Gut them and wahhlaa!.. You can even leech from the power
supply to fire up the amp. Thrift stores usually have these extra cheap.

The simplest thing to do is just buy shielded speakers.

You can get them pretty reasonably at any online speaker source. I
prefer MCM Electronics:

The only true way to keep them shielded from the monitor is to surround the
magnet with sheet metal, or the like. I agree that you should just gut some
PC speakers. You can pick up a decent sound system for prettty cheap on
ebay.

A "shielded speaker" simply has what is commonly know as a "bucking
magnet" attached to the rear of the speaker magnet. It's job is to
"cancel" the magnetic field around the outside of the speaker magnet.

You can buy these seperatly and apply them to the rear of any
transducer-(word of the day) to get the job done. Now there are Gauss
ratings to take into consideration when selecting your bucking magnets,
but for the average laymen I would say just get the ones that fit
nicely on the back of the existing magnets =)

You'll have to to some research more on the matter for selection and
application. Just google "bucking magnet"

FWIW I just installed a seperate amp and 10" sub in the bottom rear of
my MKII cab. You can really feel it in your testicles when you deliver
an uppercut. It's quite the experience.
