Same Price different Speeds???

Hello ,

I thought of buying one of these Graphic cards,
Please advise ,

They are about the same price , but I have no idea if they have
the same about of pipeline, bacause I hear that is important ...

GeforceGT 6600 at 233 USD RAMDAC 400Mhz Core 500Mhz Memory 900MHz
Radeon 9800 Pro at 244 USD RAMDAC 400MHz Core 380Mhz Memory 680MHz

They are both 128 MB only the Radeon has a 256bit interface
Now i'm defintaly not an expert but would one go with the GeforceGT 6600... I always thought that GT stood for "Gran Turismo" he he !!!

I heard good stories about the Radeon 9800Pro , very usable card , but for that money I'm thinking Geforce ..
I'm using the Radeon 7500 64Mb right now and need to upgrade,
i use photoshop and other picture viewing programs, and I also play fast games... I need windows to be super quick in shifting between windows without hampering...

I too was in your exact position about a month ago. I had a GeForce 4200ti and was wanting to upgrade to be able to play today's games at their potential. At first I was leaning towards Radeon 9800PRO, but after talking with some people and doing some research, the 6600GT is the better card (some may refute that), but take into consideration this benchmark:

Which compares a lot of popular video cards of present. The GeForce 6600GT outperforms the Radeon 9800PRO in Half Life2. As far as a hardware comparison, the Radeon 9800PRO may have a 256 bit memory interface while the 6600GT has a 128 bit memory interface, but the 6600GT has GDDR3 memeory versus Radeon's DDR memory. I now own the 6600GT and have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't have personal experience with the Radeon 9800PRO, but I'm sure that is a good card as well. To be honest, I'm sure you'd be very happy with either card upgrading from a Radeon 7500, but the 6600GT definitely gets my stamp of approval. Here's a stat sheet on the 6600GT:

They both have 8 pipelines... what sets them apart is the memory interface, and the type of RAM contained within... not to mention one is Radeon and the other is nVidia... there are also some other small differences like the 6600GT having pixel shader 3.0 and the radeon supporting OpenGL 2.0 while the GeForce 6600GT supports up to 1.5 but in my opinion those are minimal.

6600GT is faster, but make sure you get one clocked at 500/1000, not 500/900. XFX MIGHT be, AOpen definitely is, Gigabyte is (I think), and a few others are.

I can say from firsthand experience that the XFX 6600GT (at least the PCI-E) is clocked at 500 / 1000. I have it overclocked to 562 / 1154 w/no problems whatsoever (that's what the auto-tuner clocked it to).

Doesn't mean squat for AGP. ALL PCIe GTs are 500/1000 (except Gaiwnard--550/1200), some AGP are 500/1000 and most are 500/900.
