I think that this is another good indicator that prices are about to start correcting on the High end cards. The ASUS that is posted in the link below has dropped $ 40.00 to $50.00 in less than a week. Its still way to high, and im not posting this because its an ASUS card. This is a significant price drop and the market has gotten alot more of the X800 series card recently. Mark my word, just wait and see how well ATI's profits are going to be for the last quarter. I still think that this lack of cards and their slow introduction into the market has been more of a smart marketing strategy than anything else. They have been selling these cards like crazy even at the high prices.

Hey guy's, give me your opinions on these 3 X800XL's. Actually the ASUS is out of the question but I am curious as to why it is so much higher.

At the present I dont have an HDTV, but that may come into play later so consider that. I use CRT's for monitors, but will probably get a flat screen in the near future. Im just not sure what the ins and outs are between the different input and outputs.

Also, why is the ASUS not clocked as high as the other 2?

so much for the manufacturer's suggested retail of $299.99  ... I didn't really see that happening anyway.

I'm not sure why the Asus is clocked so much lower than the other two, but it's not terribly uncommon for manufacturer's to clock the same graphics card chipset at different speeds. As for the dramatic price difference (+$100)... got me.

Asus, could that be an error? Usually very fast cards and good quality. If correct, should be less than others.

The XL 800 should be clocked at 400/980

Its listed correctly. I checked the ASUS website and just sam the same one at ZipZoomFly. The one at ZZF was a good bit cheaper than the one at Newegg.

I don't like any of those choices.

First the Sapphire use the crappy-assed, very loud, not as efficient X700XT cooler (probably many left over after cancelling the X700XT).

The second one is power crapper, and after the FiringSquaq review from a few weeks back it shows that it's not that great. And that stupid extra power connector IS mandatory, and yet it doesn't overclock better than the ones without that stupid connector (unlike I thought maybe it'd help).

And the ASUS has a VERY strange thing, crap memory, EFFECTIVE memory 700mhz / 350mhz DDR!?! Heck my R9600Pro can reach those speeds (admittedly 128bit) with plain DDR too. The Cooler is one of the most quiet out there, but that memory limitation is going to KILL this card in current and fututre games with the settings cranked (which is why you buy these cards).

Of all of them, for the money, I hate to say it, I'd go with Powercrapper. But really I am not a fan of them at all. I would say you have a bunch of choices all with MAJOR flaws.

Just my two frames' worth of course.

Well this being the case, I guess that I need to rethink this. The only reason that I had gotten into a hurry is because of an RMA refund that I need to do something with. For that much money, I dont want to be sorry later down the road. Newegg seems to be a good bit higher than the other sites that I have been looking at. I hope this isnt an indication of a nasty price trend.

Ummm, the ASUS HSF is an UltraQuiet one, kinda like Gag'n'Puke's. But I agree with the rest of the mediocre parts comments on this board. Especially F'in plain assed DDR!

Just a little more info on 2 of the three cards listed, thanks to the folks @ GamePC;

http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=x800xl&page=14

Notice their ASUS is pretty close to the Sapphire's speeds but still a little underclocked, but also notice the 'unknown' performance difference they find between the two cards. Strange.

Also note alot of the features mentioned earlier.

1) I have one ASUS graphics card. It was a rip off. I'll never buy their brand again if I can avoid it. Even today I think they play on their name. The cards they produce seem more expensive than a competitors with seemingly no useful (additional) features.

2) Sapphire. You really, really have to watch out what you guys buy from them. They play around with bus sizes and different types of memory. They seem to almost always be slower (an ok cheaper) than the reference card. They made a name for themselves and now seem bent on destroying it.

Anyway, I am ignorant, this is only an opinion and I don't want to start any flame war. This is just what I FEEL and my general impression.
