Do you get any error messages? Right click on the 'My Computer' icon
and click on manage, have a look through event viewer to see if there
are any application errors when you are trying to download files.

As "Raztax" posted we need to know what error message (if any) you are
seeing.

For example, if you are seeing "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" then this could
narrow it down quite a bit as you will see at:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/5.html

Finally, if you clear the History and Temporary Internet Files this
sometimes fixes certain IE problems.
