Ah man, I can't believe it. This fanatic wannabe just bought a GF6800U for my own personal gaming! I've wanted a X800XTpe for ages now. But even X800XT is just way too expensive still at $450+, and how long will I have to wait for X800XL AGP to be released and sell for $300. Mid Summer? I'm just getting tired of looking for the AGP upgrade I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.
Anyway, BFG GF6800 Ultra OC for $350 after $50 rebate.
I just couldn't pass it up although I never thought I'd buy a 6800U. But then, I never thought I'd find one for $50 under the suggested price of a GF6800GT either. Hope it will work well on the MSI K8N Neo2 platinum, unlike some claims of issues with NF3 and OC'ed GF6800 series cards.
So anyone besides maybe HardwareBoss think I made a good choice? I sure would like to trade it for a HIS X800XT IceQ II though.

I just got myself a 6800gt, its so much better than my old r9800pro!

Damn that's a helluva deal right there! I wish I had $350 to buy one. Let us know how it performs. Also if you're new to Nvidia try out the Digital Vibrance in the control panel. Just try it at low for a bit to get used to it. It's nothing huge but does add a little something extra to games. Looks especially good in NFSU2. Image sharpening is fun to adjust as well but I'm not sure if ATI has that or not.
Just saw that same site also has the BFG 6800nu OC for $250 which is pretty good.

Outpost.com is a very good site for video card deals. Many months ago I got a retail BBA 9800 pro for $170 shipped from them. Their typical price for BFG GF6800 series cards has pretty consistently been $50 under list price. Problem is they sell out very quickly. Anyway, I browse their site many times a week, and back when I bought more hardware, many times a day.
Check out the 6 pages of specials by clicking in the top right corner. Very often their mobo/cpu bundles will give you the mobo for free compared to newegg, zipzoom, and pricewatch sites. Even if you want a different mobo, you can sell the bundled one. Other times they are not really a deal.

I was just at Frys though and they want $800 (I think that's right) for the PCI-ex version.

Hey man, nothing wrong with a 6800u. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
Just goes to show how Ati is really hurting themselves with the poor availability...

All these cards are above suggested retail, both ATI and Nvidia. Either the supply sucks or everyone is trying to rob the consumer. This Frys deal was out of stock (outpost is their online vendor) and everything else was a lot more expensive.

$800 lol, that's aweful. How close to your house is the nearest Fry's? Wish we had them out East.
Back when my brother lived in CA, I was jealous he could go to Fry's Electronics. Their ads are so low priced sometimes, yet I guess like a great Black Friday deal, people wait in line before the store opens to snatch up the bargains. No thanks.
I was surprised because this 6800U was listed as in stock, when I ordered, but was listed at call for availability 20 minutes after I ordered. Hopefully I'll get one, but if not then there is still hope of a HIS X800 series card. They often still ship items after they get listed as CFA, but you have to be quick in ordering.

I agree Cleeve. If plain X800XT was abundantly available and prices in the $350-400 range, I would have already bought one by now. How many sales has ATI lost to GF6800GT's because of lack of availability and online vendors greed? One more. And it will be ages before I will upgrade again, unless someone I know wants this card bad in a build and I can make a profit on it. Most of my buyers are looking for the $100-$200 cards though, so i am probably going to be stuck with it.

That's the last time I go to Frys. I'm sure I've said that before but this time I mean it. It's a terrible place.
Their prices aren't competative at all. If you can find one of their uber deals then all power to you but I don't think it's worth saving $50 to go to their store which normally is 20%+ too high. Their R9800P's were $250 and they were selling 6600GT's for $350 iirc. Even their 7000's and 5200's were a bit on the high side although at that price point a $10 difference isn't too bad.
They have terrible stock lately. I couldn't even find the microsoft keyboard and mouse I was looking for. They have no AMD PCI-ex motherboards let alone a single Socket 939 board. Their staff is retarded. I met a friendly person there today though which is a first. Props to the Indian guy who couldn't speak english but was friendly.
How far from me? 15 minutes or so depending on traffic. With traffic it's probably closer to 3 hours
I hate to say this, but CompUSA is better.

I guess the grass isn't greener out west afterall. I thought their in-store prices were generally better than Outpost.com. But even though it's once again probably out of stock, at least the 9800 pro is $180 online.

I think you made a great choice considering i paid 410.00 for my gt in july. the only problem i have seen with the neo 2 is that people with the bfg gt have to clock it down from 370 to 350 so it will be stable. you might have to set your 2d/3d clocks the same as well to keep it from locking up or freezing. I don't know if they have fixed this problem, slava might be able to give you more info. Which processor did you get? Also i hear the neo 2 also has prblems with antec power supplies. nforcershq.com is a great website they have an msi forum there. Enjoy your card. Try the hdr in fartcry it looks great, but there is a huge performance drop.
Also don't forget to hook up those power dongles to the card so you don't freak out and have to ask for help!! j/k

I'm hoping I like the upgrade as much as you do. The 9800 pro has been good, but it's reduced to 10x7 med/high in some games now. Still did very well in HL2 though at 12x10 high. Once this cards installed, it will be time to replay Farcry again. What game have you noticed the most improvement?

Ditto What Cleeve said (as usual), and the GF6800U is a fine choice.
I'll go with the X800XL if it arrives on time, but otherwise the GF6600GT is a good stop over 'til next generation.
No point in wasting money for some misplaced loyalty (obviously ATI isn't being loyal enough in delivering at below MSRP).
Nice price though. That GF6800U should do you fine for some time.

Do to low supply. That's their own fault.
Best Buy has great turn around with BFG. All 6 BFG 6800GTOC in stock then sold real fast. Next week back in stock. That's in store.
hehehe,,, marketing, ATI for the l337 and just enough...

I hear you GreatGrape I don't care who makes the card I'm buying the best card in my price range. By the time I'm ready to buy a comp the X800XL might come down enough in price for me.
H3ll yeah, you did great. Dang $350! I could return my BFG card and pay a stocking fee and still save money at that price.
Yeah, I really just want the best card for my money, and this was it. I'm tired of waiting any longer seeing how prices have remained high. My only problem is that this is by far the most I ever spent on a video card for myself, and I did have my hopes on a X800XT somday, especially a HIS Ice Q II. I joke about the fanboy wannabe as i own more NV cards than ATI, but my higher end cards are ATI. Anyway, as is usual for me, i hold onto my money until a deal too good to pass up comes along. Funny I never thought it would be a 6800U that I'd find a bargain on. I thought either the X800XL, X800XT or GF6800GT would end up being my next card, so I am somewhat shocked to soon be a 6800U owner.

Boston I remember driving in Cal 24+ years ago. 6 lanes 6AM doing 70 Mph next lane from speed lane. Cars wizzing by like I'm not moving in speed lane.
The regular laws of driving don't apply here apparently. I got in a car accident my first day in this city.

I lost a car off of I-5 in Compton about 10 years ago. I took the wrong exit and someone didn't like it. I got shot at, and my typical luck holding out, one hit my engine. I ended up running out on foot. A car is definitely a better getaway than a pair of feet!
Luckily insurance covered it, and even the Police said it was parted out 20 minutes after I left it. They didn't even bother to check out the story.
Needless to say, I wasn't impressed.
1 car > 2 feet....

Checked their web site. 6800 Ultra OC Now $599.99. short sale price. They have 6800O OC BFG for $249. Now if Best Buy would match that I'll buy it.
Just placed order for BFG 6800 Ultra OC for $399.99 I callled Frys the guy told me The order should not have gone thru. I asked about the $50 rebate. He said that price $399.99 Was no longer good. But I have order #. He said call back in an hour or 2 to see if order gets pulled.
I posted the rebate link for you in your other thread.
By the way, if you don't get it, check that site often as the BFG 6800GT has been $350 many times with no rebates. Not as good a deal, but not bad either.
