I recently ordered a radeon 9700 pro and should have it in a week or two so I decided to oc my old card just to see how it works as I had never done this before. The cards a PNY Geforce 4 MX420 with stock speeds of (250/337).

After downloading powerstrip and looking at some old articles on overclocking this card, I went to work. Since my card before this only scored 194 on 3DMark03, I decided to stick with 3DMark01SE(on which I scored 3920). I could only complete 13/17 tests though, missing Game 4 - Nature, Enviroment Bump Mapping and both advanced and regular pixel shader. I benchmarked it until I started getting artifacts around (305/405), backed it down and found a good spot at (290/389). I ran it at this speed on 10 repeats and it held steady so I figure its stable right? My 3DMark01SE final score was 4450 3D Marks.

I bumped it up 530 marks which translates to it running at about 113.5% compared to stock on 3DMark. I was more than happy with this, as it was my first try at overclocking, and it seems to be doing alright. Would ya'll say this OC was a decent bump? Not that it matters much as I'll be using my new card very shortly, but good practice I guess. Lemme know how I did.

*Just for the record, I bumped my 3DMark03 score from 194 to 207, but could only run the Wings of Fury Game Test, and the fill rate tests.

Yeah, thats pretty good. It's only good for practice though, you aren't going to be able to play much of today's or yesterday's games with that card. You are in for a surprise when you get your 9700Pro. :)
