Ok I have a ti4200 128mb 8x agp card and its on its last legs. I am looking for a recommendation on a replacement for it but not wanting to spend a great deal of cash. I have looked at some 5700's and such. I would like to stay in nvida.

I have an amd 2700 with 1gb of ram am not a big gamer do a fair amount of video rendering play some games like star wars galaxies and such.

The Ti4200 is still a formidable card compared to the 5700... don't bother, you probably wouldn't notice a performance increase.

The minimum card to upgrade to for you would be a Radeon 9700 or 9800 PRO. You could find a used 9700 PRO for about $120 or so...

If its Nvidia or nothing, go for a ~$200 Geforce 6600GT. Really good cards for the money.

Nvidia or no, stay away from the entire GeforceFX series. Very poorly architectured cards, none are worth upgrading to from your reliable 'ol Ti4200.

Thanks for the information and I do know that the 4200 is still a good card.

I found a non gt 6600 card that is in my price range and that is probably the way for me to go as I don't want to go much over 150 or so. I guess I can check ebay and see what the 6600gt's are going for on there.

I believe all the plain GF6600's are PCI-e, so you would need to step up to the 6600GT to get an AGP version.

So it seems you can. I haven't come across one yet but haven't specifically been looking either. Interesting. Are they more expensive than the PCI-e version? They even have a Sa6200 AGP also.

do not bother with a series 5 nvidia card, go for a 6600GT definately... equals the 9800pro/xt & stomps on them 'a bit' with FSAA/Ansio turned on

256mb if possible (handy for rendering if thats your 'game')

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...
