I recently purchased a Tempest Major Havoc conversion. The seller said
"The control panel overlay is original and has no cig burns or any rips
or tears, it is in nice condition" When the game arrived the front
edge of the CPO had cracks and pieces chipped out. He feels his
description was accurate but I don't agree. I have posted some
pictures on a web page and I would like to get some thrid party
opinions. Take a look and let me know if I am making too big a deal
out of this:

I'd say that the description you quote is just enough to be
approximately correct. Most will not really consider the lower front
bend part of the control panel, and most just assume that it is in a
condition similar to what you describe.

However, I think that the seller could have said more about the
condition of the lower front bend.

Personally, if I got a panel in the condition that you show with the
description the seller stated, I'd be comfortable (not happy, but not
feeling like I was ripped off).

The first rule of thumb for a buyer is to ask a lot of questions and get
a lot of pictures if you are expecting something of a particular quality.

So, I'd say that what you got and what was described is standard fare --

He probably could have said something like "typical cracking at the bend in
the CP", but overall, similar to what Bret said, I might have hoped for
better, but I wouldn't feel ripped off either.

sometimes they dont know what to say bcuz they may not be collectors
and even understand what "typical cracking " is.
may had been an honest description from the sellers point of view if
they are not a video game collector.

I disagree... if the guy DIDN'T know what "typical cracking" was then he
should have said something as it is clearly visible. The only reason that
he didn't say something was because he did understand about typical cracking
and is therefore apparently a collector, or at least in the know.

All this aside, I do feel his description is misleading... reading it you
would have expected a nicer control panel then what was received.

The seller should have mentioned the cracking in either case... he basically
told you all the *good* things about the CP and none of the negatives...
this is, in my opinion, quite misleading.

-aside: wtf can't people just be honest about things? are people that hard
up that they have to scam an extra few bucks?

Thanks for the input guys. I have to say my first reaction was the
same as Steve's. When the machine showed up I felt like I had been
mislead. Interestingly enough, the seller had a NOS overlay that he
sold about the same time as he sold the machine. Probably had intended
to replace the overlay if he had kept it but decided to sell the two
seperately to maximize profits.

If I had seen the machine before purchasing I would have either walked
or gotten a price adjustment, but after shipping I am pretty much stuck
with it as is. He did offer to help a bit with some of the other
issues with the machine but remains firm on the overlay. the perils or
buying thru ebay.

Thanks
Dan

What were the other issues with the game?
