I was looking into buying a CRT tester. Does anyone know anything about
these will a 1980's tester work on a newer monitor. I want to get a
tester tha will work on both 8 and 10 pin tubes is this true for most
testers. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Paul

The earlier testers have unique adapter sockets for different tubes. The
more adapters you get the better off you are. Look for socket 17 and 23
since they are some of the more common ones. The later CRT testers have
fewer adapters and additional knobs that give you more tube options. I have
one of the Sencore Mighty Mac models and I like it a lot.

I just made a harness for mine. It is very easy and it is very
universal......

I have a Sencore CR168 "Big Mack" tester that I use for my classic arcade
monitors. I also have a second one that I do not need. It has adapters 1-16
except for #13. It works well as does the other. If you need one for the
older Electrohomes and Wells-Gardners, you will need #23. I think the
adapters are still available. I'll check on that. If you are interested in
it for $75 plus shipping, it beats $700 for a new that does the same thing
and I will guarantee it to work correctly. If you are intersted I will send
you pics and more detail. I believe the CRT setup book is a 1986 model.

Hello,
I have a B & K 467 , You can find them on Ebay at a fair
price. Look for #23 and a Universal adapter.
There are links on the B & K site for companys that sell the adapters,
plus a pdf on tube cross referencing. One of the first things I did
was open up the tester and resolder all of the cold solder joints. From
what I have seen the only thing that really goes wrong with the B & ks
is the push button for the rejuve/clean. Best piece of test equipment I
have ever bought. Next to the in circuit cap checker.

Do a search on google. There are some good articles on tube
rejuvination.

Really don't waste your money on an adapter when you can make one for less
then $10.00 in parts. All I did was get a Molex that fit my tester wired it
with single wire at the other end put female pins on the wires and put heat
shrink around them and marked them. Now I have a connector that will hook to
any arcade tube just by looking at the pin-out of the tube and sliding the
correct female pin on the tube it takes a couple of extra minutes to set up
but it is well worth it. E-mail me if you would like a pic.

B&K 467, 470, 480, and 490 are great. Socket adapters CR23, 30, and 31
are most often used arcade ones.

Sencore cr70, CCR7000 are good, but way overpriced.

I have the B&K 467 with all the adapters I need. Just check ebay. You can
usually find them for a good price.

This is the setup manual if you want to see what adapters you need.
