This caught me by surprise, I took for granted that all the X850 series cards would have 16 pixel pipelines. The price tag of $419.00 was what caught my attention. My question is- What do you guys think about this cards price/performance ratio and how well it fits into ATI's big picture.

Personally I think that;s the silliest card made. It's been on the books for a long time and we've talked about it a few times. Just such a 'why bother' thing.

What's the point of the card (other than to sell defective XT chips)? The X800XL is cheaper, less power hungry, and less got, yet performs better. Would you spend over $100 more for a lesser card?

Now let's wait for the X850SE.

Yeah, from the consumers point of view it is the stupidest card. For ATI, it probably makes sense as Grape said to utilize those faulty 16 pipers. Unlike the X800pro, they do not need many of these this time(because of X800XL), so no need to let good 16 pipe chips get branded as a X850 pro. They just release as many as they have to to use all the chips they can. Anyway, doubtful there will 100% succesful unlocks of the extra 4 pipes on the X850 pro.

Probably will be one. And it will sell for the same as the X800XL. Although most will go into High end Dell XPS Gamers sporting cutting edge ATI X850 PCI-e Graphics!!!!

Good place for them. With that law suit against them.

No they should make a special version just for Dell, X850 extreme or something, and make it run at same core frequency as the X850pro, use 512mb of 64bit sh*t TSOP ram, and 4 pipelines. Since most companies only list the core frequency and how much ram the card has.
