9800 Pro vs. 6600 GT

I'm putting a new rig together this weekend (ordering parts), and I have selected all components except the video card. I do not plan on overclocking.

What is the best AGP card for the $200 (US) price point?

The 9800 Pro and 6600GT are similarly priced at Newegg. I have no ATi/nVidia preference, simply looking for your opinions on which offers the best (gaming) performance for the money.

6600GT - No contest.

Performs better (even better then a 9800XT) and a lot more cooler.

Additonally, you also have better technology - PS3.0 etc.

I have never owned a 9800PRO, but I do have the X700Pro, and the 6600GT. The 660GT beats the X700PRO like a red headed stepchild So if the X700Pro and 9800PRO are close in comparison"I have no idea if they are or not" then the 6600GT all the way.

I've owned a 9800 Pro and it was an awesome card. I'd go for the 6600 GT in this case though. It performs on par or better than the 9800 and since it's part of Nvidia's new generation driver optimizations are tailored to it. With the 9800 pro the drivers are optimized for the new X800, x850, x600...line.

Yeah, there is no comparison. priced about the same = get the 6600GT. Both great cards, but the 9800 pro has to be priced much lower to be a valid buy now that the 6600GT is out and priced under GF6800's. Back when it was $230+ for the 6600GT AGP, and $180 at oupost for a 9800 pro, it was a different story as there was a choice to be made. Actually then it was between a $180 9800pro or a $250 6800 as the 6600GT was to expensive in AGP at first.

Probably beating a dead horse here, but I also vote 6600GT. I purchased a 6600GT awhile back when I put together my most recent PC and this thing impresses the hell out of me for the price. IMO, this ranks up there very high as far as priceerformance is concerned. Take a look at how the 6600GT did compared with the 9800PRO in Half Life 2:
