usb/serial adapter problem

ok here is the problem i dont know what is wrong here but i bought a
usb/serial adapter for my sony viao pc since it doesnt have any serial ports
on it. I have a thing for my car its called an accessport ( www.accessecu.com
) its an upgradeable thing for my ecu in my car well anyways when i plug it
into my pc to upgrade it with new software i get an error message on my pc
saying error Bad AccesPORT communication (0x86 0x10). Contact tech support.
The problem is I dont know if its my pc, the accessport or serial adapter or
it might even be me . Anyone have any ideas on what this might be? I included
the accessport website so you guys have an idea of what i have. I have
allready emailed them and they said for my to call sony and talk to them. Any
help guys? my warrenty is up on my pc and i dont want to pay the money to
talk to someone who cant help me.
