I've been browsing ebay looking at radeon 9700's and 9800's. Some sellers have cards they have pulled out of Dells for sale as-is with no drivers, cables, manuals, etc. Will these plug into most any modern machine and work well? They don't give much more information about the parts and I don't want to bother emailing them with questions if the cards won't work anyway. Thanks.

Any 9700 or 9800 will work in any AGP 8x or AGP 4x motherboard.

Watch for two things:

1. The seller's credentials: their rating, how long they've been on ebay, etc.

2. If you're buing a 9800, MAKE SURE it's not an SE.

Otherwise, you're good to go. I got many cards on ebay, including my 9700 PRO.

Dont forget to mention what an SE card is, Cleeve.

SE = 128 bit. BE CAREFUL!

Yes make sure it's a 9700 pro, or 256-bit 9800/9800 pro. Avoid the 9800/pro 128 bits, or the 9800se.

Anayway, still in stock at newegg is a real refurbished 256-bit 9800 pro, and if you test it right away and find a problem, newegg will replace it or possible just refund your money. I ordered one and it comes this wednesday. At that price I wouldn't expect them to last much longer, but who knows.

Refurb or not, I'll trust newegg over any ebay seller.

Many of the Dell 9700's being advertised as Pros are actually 9700TX cards, this is a special low-budget version for Dell that's underclocked, using slower RAM. It's still a good card, but not worth as much as a Pro.
