Posting here cuz everyone who is on the Motherboard forum also reads this one.

Newegg.com totally owns. As I said on the mobo forum, my Abit IS7 mobo chipset fan is acting up and is about to die. I wrote to Newegg and they initially told me that the board was warrantied through Abit. So I wrote to Abit. They gave me a runaround and sent me back to the "point of purchse". In desperation and expecting to get another negative reply (Newegg is not responsible for Abit warranties after all), I wrote back to Newegg explaining what Abit did and Newegg sent me a free chipset fan with apologies. Now, that's customer service!

Yup, their pricing isn't always number one, and they don't have the 100% money back guarantee of a CompUSA or BestBuy retail chain, but beside that, Newegg treats you right. If you run into troubles, you can be glad you bought it at Newegg.

Out of curiosity, did yours come with 3Comm Gigabit ethernet? I used many IS7's in the past and still own 2 myself. Great mobos, and to be honest I have not lost or heard of one I built, having the fan die. Wonder if they cheaped out on the fan after time, or if I got lucky. Anyway, All of them came with gigabit and not just 10/100. I've been wondering if they still do that .

It has Realtek gigabit ethernet. Having browsed a bit I found out that this chipset fan issue is a well-known problem. There is even a class action lawsuit against Abit. You must have an earlier version of the board and they just got bad fans on the later ones...

Thanks for the info. Odd they spec 10/100, but even now still put gigabit lan on it. Anyway, yes both of mine and for that matter most of the ones I have used were back within the first few months after the board was released.

I think the first of my own two was just after yours(Aug), but the first I built was a high end gamer for a customer back in June 03. It really quickly became the only socket 478 mobo I considered using. And it stayed that way since no problems ever arose and if offered great performance/features/stability for the right price.

One friend that built his shortly after me had issues with the integrated audio. He basically had backround noise that could be heard while scolling his mouse. Adding a cheap SB live 5.1 solved his problem though. I never used the IS7 integrated audio myself.

I don't know, but they did ruin it, it would seem. On-board audio on mine is fine, except the speakers sound like they are covered with a pillow, so I use sound blaster. The chipset fan died after 3 months and I removed it leaving the heat sink for passive cooling... I use IDE drives and when I disable SATA controller since I have no use for it, the PC won't boot. As a matter of fact disabling just about anything in the BIOS (I mean things I don't use, like IR) causes stability problems. When I load BIOS defaults everyting is fine. The only things I can change without problems are AGP apperture size, RAM timings, disable on-board audio and a couple of other things.
