I really think I finally quit going there. But then you get desperate
for that part that you really need and feel "man they gotta' have
that;" then you go and . . . NOTHING!

I was just there a few weeks ago. I feel your pain.

Speaking of Radio SLack have your ever tried asking one of their
salespeople a question? Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

Ex-clowns from the circus have to work somewhere.

P.S. Mike, I checked out your website a while ago. Nice website.

I was in Miami for work a few months back... First I needed a fire-wire
cable to hook up a video camera to a DVD burner. I went into a Radio
Shack and asked the 2 clerks for a fire-wire, their response was "Oh,
we stopped selling those a few years ago." I tried telling them that it
is new technology that should still be for sale. They said not at their
store anymore. After 20 minutes of insisting they must have the cable,
I was walking to the door majorly frustrated when I thought that they
sell video camers which must come with the cable. I asked where the
camers where and the clerk who insisted they no longer sell fire-wire
cables pointed me to the camera display and low and behold there was an
entire shelf of IEEE fire wires!!! I asked the clerk what he called
them and he just gave me a blank stare!

Thanks Al. Didn't want to make a site that had all kinds of flashy
stuff that just slows down a person's computer. I figure simple and
straight to the point is better. Have plans to add a lot more stuff,
but 12 hour days at work, plus a project in the garage are keeping me
busy right now.

Yeah, thats what happen with me today. Had no plans to go there
again, but needed to find what i was looking for really bad. So i
figured they HAD to have it. Nope.... :(

Radio Shack stinks now because of cheap computers and the web. In the "old
days," computer nerds and tech heads would flock to jobs at Radio Shack to
get discounts on computer parts, especially when they would build their own
system. Now the parts are so cheap, there isn't much draw there, and the
nerds/geeks can make more money working on web projects anyway.

You forgot no logic probes. They have slipped a lot. Oh for the old days
when they carried most anything. I've complained to the manager here but
they don't care.

Franchise or Company stores ,all of them are the same here in Pa. When I
was in college they carried almost anything I needed. The electronics
section covered two or more walls and now it is shoved in a corner. All
of the good testing tools are gone, IR cards, IC's ,etc.. and now a lot
of the IC's are on closeout.
Oh yeah...."can I help you"?

It's not just that they don't things they use to have years ago(Area in
the store is so small if you blink you'll miss it) but some of the
people that work there piss me off. Try to sum up this story:

One day a few years ago I was having trouble with my computer, so i
called RS to see if they could help. A young guy answered and told me
this was his first day on the job. I told him my problem and he was
really helpful on the phone and walked me through the problem. After
awhile he said he had to get back to work but if i still had a problem
to call tomorrow and he would be more then happy to stop by my place
and check it out. Well, the next day i called and someone else answer.
I asked if the young guy was there and he told me that they let him
have the day off because of it being slow. I told him about the other
guy helping me out the day before. Well, he started to bitch about how
it was against the rules to help people over the phone and he was going
to have a talk with the new guy the next time he came in to work. Of
course the older guy said he could help but i had to bring the computer
in and had to pay for the services. I just hope i didn't get the new
guy fired. What a Bunch of Pricks!

I sure am glad someone understands this. Remember the old saw that goes
something like, "People get the elected representatives they deserve"?
Same with retail. Nobody fixes things any more because things are made at
throwaway prices because consumers don't see anything past the price tag.
How long would a RS (or any store, for that matter) last if they devoted a lot
of floor space to parts that maybe only 10 people a year would buy? Not very
long, I imagine.

While this is not scientific, the times I've gone to RS for parts, I am not
usually the only person in the parts dept. At least twice recently I've seen
father's and sons buying parts for a project -- and not the same two.
