Untested Battlezone means "broken". Battlezone is the second worst,
next to Pole Position to get fixed. I have three Battlezone PCB's I'd
gladly sell for $65, Broken.

BTW Alex, what is the average cost of a BZ repair? I've got a few I'd
like to send your way and wanted to know what to expect on average
(yea, they can be all over the place, but give me a ballpark if you
don't mind)

I have to agree that Alex does bang up work, BTW.

I don't know why you feel they are difficult to get fixed. We have a
steady of them through our shop, and I can't recall any that we haven't
been able to get working. Maybe you just aren't sending them to the
right shops :)

The average varies, depending on the scope of the work. For instance,
if the owner just wants it working, the the minimum price is $75 per boardset.
Expensive parts like POKEYs, CPUs, PROMs, etc. aren't included in that, and
we charge market prices for those. The great majority of BZ repair bills for a "get
it working" sort of job winds up being less than $100 + shipping. We do a
limited amount of preventive maintenance for that type of job - clean the edge
connectors if they need it, clean the legs of the socketed ICs if they need it,
reflow the interboard headers, etc. Most folks just want that level of repair, and
they get a 30 day warranty with that. If it looks like even the basic repairs
are going to cost more than $100 we contact the owner as soon as that becomes
apparent (which is not always immediately) so they can make a decision. Usually
they have us go ahead with the job anyhow.

In some cases however, the owner plans on keeping the game for a long time,
or they may not want to ever have to re-seat ROMs. In that case, we
can do more extensive preventive maintenance or upgrades, sort of al-la-carte.
Some folks will have us burn a whole new ROMset, some will have us replace all
the original sockets, things like that. Some even have us replace all the op-amps
in the DAC section. Not a lot of folks want to go to that level of detail, but we can
do it...
