Ys there are usually settings to prevent this, if you go into the control panel, then mouse settings, and click the devicde settings tab, then settings (usually synaptics mousepad), then click the sensitivity menu tree and you'll see palm check. Make the palm check as small as possible and it should help prevent that if you are accidently touching it with your palm.
