I just built up a system for a friend with an Athlon 64 2800, Asus A8n board and a Sapphire 9600XT, all in an Antec case. Everything seems to work perfectly fine, except, when playing games, there are some random crashes that invoke the VPU recovery, they are after a good bit of gaming normally, so I am assuming that it's a heat issue, but the system toold on the card properties say that the temperature is sitting at 40C, which doesn't seem too hot.
It never crashes on the desktop, I have tried all driver variants, there is no artifacting before the crash, just a lock up followed by the VPU revovery, in all games and D3D games (Not sure about OpenGL)
I ran RTHDRIBL and 3dmark 05 no problems, so I am at a loss.

Try diabling fastwrites. It sounds exactly like what happens when fastwrites makes a system unstable.
