Need help. I have a cable modem which accesses the internet thru a Linksys router. I leave my pc on 24/7. My question is this: I sell on Ebay and would like to know how I can get the photo links in my ads to go directly to the file on my pc's hard drive instead of to a storage site on the web. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be get a dedicated IP Address from your internet service provider and then run your own web server.

Though I don't see what's wrong with using an on-line service to host your graphics.

I'd suggest installing Personal Web Server, which is on the Win98 cd. Use Apache for *nix systems. You can also run an ftp server and host the graphics on there. Web would be ideal though.

If you can find a cheap computer or build one from spare parts, just install Windows 2000 on it and add IIS (it's on the Win2k cd). Then run your own web server. On cable you probably have your IP address for a month or two which should be fine for selling on ebay. Every couple months when your IP addy changes, adjust accordingly. Or better yet, pay a few bucks more for a static IP.

You can run a web server on your main computer but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll probably get hacked at some point and why risk your main computer?
