I don't understand!!!

My computer:
Gigabyte k8nf-9, a64 3000+ 939oced to 2.1ghz, 1 gig RAM and a x600xt 256 megs video card.

My Aquamark score: GFX 3807, CPU9988 and 31990 aquamarks

My friend (my old) system:
Soltek k8an2e-gr, a64 3000+ 754 stock speed, 512 megs RAM and AIW 9600xt 128 megs video card.

his Aquamark:GFX 4179, cpu 8866 and 33814.

Is the 128 megs more RAM kill that much performance in that test?

My 3dmark05: 1821, his: 1636

Is the 128 megs RAM more help my case in that test?? or if there is something I dont get?

We can see the the 100MHZ and the 5-7% advantage from dual channel more give an edge to my cpu, but the video card loose to the old AIW9600xt...

Any idea? I'm not dissapointed about my score, as my computer is plenty fast for what I do, but I did not expect that!

You should know that the X600XT's does blow... it only has 4 pipelines same to the 9600xt, 128bit memory bandwidth, but it looses to 9600xt because of lower clock frequencies.

Are you sure the X600XT has lower frequencies than the 9600XT?

They both have the same clock speed and if i'm not mistaken the x600xt has higher memory clocks.

W00T, with the 9600 Pro, the 128MB version had DDR600, the 256MB version had DDR400. It wouldn't surprise me at all if ATI economized further by extending that slow RAM to the X600XT.

The 256mb versions of the x600xt get DDR600.

I'm not sure what brand he has but most X600XT 256mb's uses TSOP ram... Therefore most of them has lower clocks than the 128mb version of X600XT or the 9600XT which both uses BGA ram.

w00t! Is the core clocked at 500MHz too?

I have 500 MHz core and 300MHz memory, ddr600 according to atitools.

But if you take the 3dmarks, I'm higher and he is slower. So there is at least something good with the x600xt 256 megs..

I will get a Soltek nforce4 motherboard to replace this Gigabyte to see if the motherboard can play a role in that. It is now listed at NCIX, as well as the 754 nforce4 pcie board.

It is a Powercolor. I dont know what kind of memory, but this morning, I try to overclock a bit with AtiTools.

I could not push the memory very high.. maybe 2-3 MHZ. But I did push the core to 550 MHz and the score went to 34110, so a small improvement.

I dont know if that could hurt the chip thou, so I will bring it back to normal, as I dont game very much often..

Yep:

9600XT: 500 core, 370 mem
X600XT: 500 core, 300 mem

Strange.

It's too bad your memory is so uncooperative, the 9600/X600 series are really starved for memory bandwidth... hence your buddy's better scores here and there.

well, I just rerun the test, and got 33874.. 60 more point than him, but a large increase from yesterday!!! And I did nothing. Fact is, I was online, with messenger, firefox opened and the firewall monitored..!!
I dont know, I guess that yesterday my computer did not feel cooperative. Maybe it got scared because I said that I was going to change my motherboard..

My friens x600AIW got worse score.. 27xxx... we have the same board, but his 3200+ run at 2.3 GHz...
