The best laptop for architecture student under $1000 AUD

Hi guys,

I'm a 3rd year architecture student and will be going overseas during the holiday for a short course study. I want to get a decent enough laptop that can process 3d modelling and photoshops effectively with a price under 1000 AUD (prefer to be around 800 AUD).
Because this trip is going to be Jan and Feb next year, so I'm just wondering would it make much difference if I buy one now or wait till X'mas to get a better performance/price one?
Also, I see laptops like HP Pavilion with 3rd gen i7 cpu and ATI Radeon 7670 2GB graphic only costs under $800. would that be a good option or what would you guys recommend?
