Webcam failure toshiba satellite c855

my friend is running windows 7 on a toshiba satellite c855, however the laptop is new and the webcam cant be recognised. when searching the pc for webcams and software nothing was founf so i tried to install drivers and software. this didnt help and brought up a message saying failed to run. also tried unistalling this and re installing. the device also isnt listed under imaging devices...need help
