So I've got the SLI Mobo and saving for the cards. Question. Can you overclock the 6600GT & get to the performance of the 6800gt, or at least get close? Rather spend $400 than $800. bUt I realize that you probably can't but someone told me about "opening pipes, etc".

I don't believe you can open the pipes on a 6600GT. Some older 6800's allowed you to open up some pipes, but they've put a stop to alot of that with newer hardware.

A 6600GT still won't really compare to a 6800GT when overclocked. Basically, a 6600GT is a good card for playing games with no AA at 1024x768... the 6800GT is good for playing games at higher resolutions with AA on and still fast framerates.

You're buying for AGP, or PCI-express? If it's PCI-express and you have an SLI motherboard, you might want to get the 6600GT and upgrade with a second one later.

Then again, if you have PCI-express, for about the same price as a 6600GT ($200) you can get the new base X800 model, with 12 pipelines... and for $300 you can get the X800 XL which is as good as a 6800GT...

LOL, NO! The 6800GT on paper is nearly 2x faster than the 6600gt, and in real life apps, IT IS! It doesn't matter even if you got peltier waterblock and clock the core at 700mhz and ram at 1300mhz, you still get raped by the 6800GT because of its 16 pipelines and 256bit memory bandwidth.

I just bought the 6800 gt seems impresive so far. but I cannot install the tv tuner card I bought with it. Bios thinks the initial video should be pci rather than pci express and I get a check signal everytime I insert the pci tuner card.

It's a real bitch trying to figure this out.

other than the tv tuner card this graphics card seems cool so far I would have liked to have waited for the r520 but time would not allow.

since it's sli maybe I'll get a second one down the road :)

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Its ati theater 550 made by MSI

and this problem is a nightmare cause if I put the card in,, it's a no show (check signal) Ive tried it all as far as I know. latest bios and drivers I set initial display in bios to peg as opposed to pci yet the bios seems to see the tuner as the graphics card and says check signal. (very frustrating)

sent an email to gygabyte as I believe it's a bios issue.

I got a cheap MSI TV tuner too, i forgot the exact model name, but it had no problems installing with my 6800ultra. Do you think it's a possibility that the ATI chipset tuner doesn't like to work with Nvidia WDM drivers?

Sure anything is possible. I'm at wits end nothing should be this hard.

frrustrating to say the least.

Can't boot with the card in so how do I figure it out?
