Yesterday I assembled a new pc and am having a little difficulty. Everthing appears to be working fine except for the fact I can't get the monitor to work on the new pc.
On the new PC I have to use a DVI -> VGA converter since the cards have 2 DVI connectors only. Also, the motherboard has a little chip located between the 2 PCIE 16x slots that you have to flip based on single or dual video cards.
Here is what I've tried:
Using only 1 card
Using only the other card
Using both cards
Using both cards but putting them in the opposite slots
In all of the above I've tried attaching the monitor to all 4 DVI connectors and also moved the chip on the motherboard from single to dual each time.
So, it could be the motherboard, the video cards, or something I did. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere else to test the new video cards at since they're PCIE and the old PC is AGP. They do however "turn on" since you can hear the fan on the video card moving and feel it vibrating slightly.
This will probably turn out to be something simple and be attributed to the fact I don't know what I'm doing, but if anyone has any suggestions here please help me. Thank you.
Assuming you have a descent PSU and the have the required power connectors attached to the AGP cards, have you tried a different VGA-DVI adaptor? Not certain of compatibility of your current monitor but could also try pluggin your rig into a monitor with native DVI interface.

Most likely a power cable issue. Be certain all the power headers on the motherboard have power cables going to them. Also, some video cards have power headers, those have to be used as well.

gONNA sound like a weird one, but stick by me on this
Reseat the motherboard. I've had it happen that when i've built a system it would do the same as yours is. after tinkering for hours couldnt get it working. finally i pulled the entire thing apart and built it outside the case and it worked... put it back in and didnt work... perplexing. the only difference was it was in the case.
what I did was take out all the screws from the motherboard to the case and rescrew them in using those little red washers and doubled them up.. and it worked.... I have a feeling i was getting a very mild short which prevented it from working
