What are your thoughts on this? I seem a little weary on trying to flash the bios of my video card.
I have all the info and programs and what not.....but I'm not sure where to find my old bios to back it up. I have nvflash and stuff....but where is the damn bios??

I wrote a guide on this in the overclock 3dsection, but why the hell would you want to use a GT bios for your ultra card, it wouldn't work because the ram is different. What do you want to change?

btw here is the guide, it's titled 6800GT volt mod but that process works for all nvidia cards. I still see no reason why would you want to downgrade your bios.

Go here http://www.bleedinedge.com/guides/ [...] ......This explains that the bios of the 6800 GT has "tighter" memory timings then the 6800 does.

6800ultra cannot use 6800gt bios, just like 6800gt cannot use 6800ultra bios.

If you want to risk it go right on ahead, but 99% you will fail. Performance gained will be less than 0.1%

That's why im asking. I want to know what the hell this guy is talking about. It didn't sound that great of an idea, but thats why I asked here to get a better understanding of why in the world would you do it. I was ready to do it, but I dont want to f it up.

You can try to flash bios to increase core voltage to 1.5V i've tried that but failed on my card. So i plan to hard mod.

Reply to scottchen

I don't know if it's worth it. It's been done alot but it's probably better left to the guys going for the highest 3dMark score.

I tried it and my card worked fine, performance per clock increased a bit, but my max o/c went down notably, so without watercooling I personally wouldn't bother.

But for sure it works.

Worked in 3d mode? because as far as i've read, switching bios either way causes card to lock up in 3d.

Have you tried to up voltage to 1.5V? That failed for me:(

I think most 6800ultra with proper cooling should reach 470mhz no problem, since BFG has a watercooled 6800ultra that's clocked at 470/1100, and its default voltage is still at 1.4V
