Whats your thought on this worm thats going round infecting IIS machines to do a distributed dos attack on the whitehouse site, after that now its downloading new instruction updates. I understand this code red worm is more than capable of bringing the internet to its knees.

Yesterday I saw the news which was talking about it. This is what they said: this virus infects your computer and makes it attack other computers. They were petrified. The FBI was causing all the noise. It was like they just shat in their pants. I say its their fault for relying too much on microsoft. They were just so pissed off because all these servers were left unpatched, Only because they might be next on the attack list.

Do you think the internet is soon to be on its knees? Do you think it can be broken? also what do you know/think about the datagrid (internet2?)?

Its only supposed to be a problem for Win2K & NT4. This takes a little bit of the worry away. I went onto Symantec Antivirus Research Centre and they have a ready fix.

So I reckon its down to the users and companies to get off their arses and see to it.

I actually believe it will be a good thing, cause a lot of computers will gain added protection. The owners will waken up to fact that they need to update their AV software or get firewalls etc.

This will benefit the IT community on a whole.

The media reaction to that was abysmal. The BBC report was terrible. They were scared to death. I suppose its not all their fault. There was some fbi guy on talk, saying we all rely heavily on the interenet, the lives of all american citizens will be affected. or something along those lines. aint that kind of a big fat lie. The people that this worm seems to attack is the government.

ROFLMAO, it sounds like Bill Gates' Y2K interview in 98 or something, except there he stated that we have absolutely nothing to worry about. But here they seem to portrait it as the end of the world.

Ya heres a funny one for ya. New Years 99 my friends and I were playing games on a LAN at one of our houses. We had fired up and old a$$ 8086 or 80286 (I cant remember which) that was running dos 3.0 It kicked over to 2000 just fine. So we figured if that old POS would work then wtf was the big deal.

ID10T errors are the cause of most consumer's computer problems.

Yeah, I was helping out with a huge New Years party and we were debating whether or not to turn out the lights at the count of 0. Figured the stampede would probably kills us, since there were a few hundred people in there.

It's just another non-event...like Y2K or the search for Shandra Levy...just a lot of media hype.

The worm could be devastating if it is pointed at a dns. or if it just dormantly infected even more computers to do a ddos attack on multiple dnservers in an area.

I'm afraid to leave my apartment! There is this big red worm outside waiting to eat me! I think it already ate Shanda Levy!

God help us!

Someone should give that tip to the DC police department...now they don't have to give Condit the POLY--0--GRAPH test.

The one that goes through your email?

If so, I have gotten this about 40 different times (the email, not the virus itself). I keep on getting them, unfortunately. Kind of weird.....

LoL

That's what me and some buddies did - we were downstairs in the basement (at a party, of course.) When we heard the people counting down, then screaming, we flipped the main breaker. LOL!! I don't think I've laughed so hard in all my life. Chaos returned to normal, however, when they decided to look outside and see if any other lights were on.... hehe

No, that's the SirCam virus. Code Red is infesting IIS everywhere. Well, it's supposed to be, anyway.

I never seem to remember new years eve. It just kind of happens. I just wake up on new years day with a headache and it's all over...

Damn...

Tell me about it. I went to a party at a bar on New Year's, and just for fun decided to do a breathalyzer. You put a buck in and blow through a straw type deal. I seem to remember blowing something in the range of .42 (the numbers were all fuzzy).

Lyrics. Wasted time between solos.

I had an analog one, but it didn't go high enough so the pin just kept hitting the edge. I don't think they were expecting BAC's that high. Once you hit .20 that's supposed to be it. At .40 you're supposed to be passed out already...

I hope that thing wasn't accurate. Many people have died with BAC of .40, even less.

I once woke up with a note stuck to my forehead with a piece of gum. It had the name of a body-shop repairman on it, and a death threat. It was from my friends older brother. Apparently, several people I was with at a party, decided to take his new truck off-roading. The last thing I remember was being cheered on as I slammed a half-pint of 80 proof Vodka. But, the story as told by witnesses, was about me doing strip tease/dance on the top of the hood. I would like to have known my BAC, that night. I know I was already hammered, when I slammed that Vodka.

Fortunately, the name on the note was a good friend of the truck owner, and a helluva nice guy. I bought a new hood and some paint, he did the labor for free.

That story about me puking down the stairs is the worst I've ever been, and I took my BAC before I drank the tequila and was already at .20. I can't imagine what I was at, but it probably could have killed me. After all I was puking blood...

Just MO (here comes a conspiracy tale). I think this worm was a test. The DoD can't figure out what bad effects it had on their system, it infected tooooons of users without killing things. I think someone's just testing the latest virus delivery system (attacking IIS). Who is doing it? I dunno. Why? *shrug*. But that's my personal theory. Just a little modification to the worm (to bypass the virus catchers that just got updated against it) and it could probably do serious damage.

Pretty sure the chinese took credit for it...

Actually, they denied it, he he. But the DoD DID suspect them.
