ATI X800 XL -> TV PAL

Has anyone experience of connecting a TV (PAL) to the ATI X800 XL? Do you have to set the jumpers on the card to PAL? Does the VDU have to be set at a scan rate of 50Hz. Why does the TV display in B/W yet the jumpers have been set to PAL. Is PAL/NTSC software selectable? Does this card usually blow when connected in this way?

I think the BIOS might be different for NTSC and PAL versions of the card. I believe the hardware is identicle so flashing one card to the other wouldn't hurt. Of course, I HAVE set both modes in software on former ATI cards, I just haven't tried anything this new yet.
