Something I'd like to share cause it's a bit weird.

A computer of mine died. No response from the motherboard at all. I thought it was the power supply. It wasn't, worked in another PC. I thought it was the motherboard, I RMA'd it. Motherboard works fine with a PCI video card. Will not power on with an x800XL.

Normally you would think the motherboard would beep to tell you if a component is dead. But no in this case. It just doesn't turn on as if there were a short.

A bit annoying for diagnosing. Going to RMA the video card. PC is working right now with an old PCI Vid card.

If the system your talking about is PCIe, put the PCI card in and then go into your BIOS and make sure that that PCIe slot is set as the main video. I've had a couple of friends that had this problem with their setups.

The X800XL uses a decent amount of power. It could be that your power supply isn't powerful enough. Also, did you remember to connect the auxilary power connector to the card?

if it's like most x800xl's it won't have the auxilary power connector.

Bios was set to PCI-e as default for video.
Power supply is a OCZ 450watt.
Yeah, the x800xl I have doesnt have aux power.

I inquired about an RMA. Sounds like it will take a long time to do. BTW, I got to test the x800 XL card in a DFI Lan pary, and I actually saw some smoke come out from the card!

Didn't want to ruin my friends motherboard, so I took it out, and haven't touched it since.

I just read this on another post:
http://secure.ncix.com/forumpost/d [...] did=819627

"I also have problems with this mobo. The only thing that will fix it is to un plug the videocard and put it back in.(?)The card(X800XL)seems to interfear with the chipset fan .Is it shorting it out? Anyway,The vid card seems to be part or all of the problem although it works fine."
