I called PageNet today about getting an alphanumeric pager (Motorola
t900) and monthly service. First off, they won't let you activate
another identical pager, so you have to pay $199 for the t900 pager
(which sells for as little as ten bucks on ebay). Monthly charge for
unlimited messaging is 22.95, 15.95 for 500 messages (those are the only
two options available). Is voice messaging included with that? No. Get
v-mail and I'm pretty much at thirty bucks, only five bucks less than my
monthly cell phone plan. I always thought pagers were supposed to be
more economical if you just want to get messages. So much for that.
Any other pager deals out there?

Get on the Fido $10 monthly plan. Pay the $5 for voice mail. And then
you have also SMS capability.
And when you need it, you can also use the phone at $0.30 per minute
(billed by second). And with the right phone, you can also use GPRS to
send/receive real emails.

Go to any authorized reseller who has the equipment.

They can re set the ESN (can't remember if it's called that for pager too)
to match that of pagenet. I used to do it all the time. I would have "codes"
assigned to me and then have pagers, even if they weren't identical switched
over.

There was a company I used on Dixie in Mississauga that I could refer you
to... email me for details.

I (thankfully) don't live in Toronto any longer. What was the name of
the company? They may have an outlet around here.

It was about a year ago that I had a alpha though them. I had a rental and
I paid only $11.95 per month for rental, voicemail and unlimited pages
(numeric/email). I did not have the operator assited message input thingy.
The only reason I had a alpha was to get the email sent to it. I now, have
a numeric I bough for $99 and that includes the pager, voicemail and
unlimited pages for 1 year. After the year, it's like $6.95 a month for
unlimited and voicemail.

I am in Alberta if that makes a difference.

$11.95 for unlimited alphanumeric, voice and the rental? They wanted
double for that from me just for the alphanumeric paging. Where did you
get your service hooked up? The price they gave you is what I had in
mind before I was sorely disappointed with a call to pagenet.

nice way around a pager for cheap, the pager buisness is outdated
only problem is the Data transfer fees Fido is charging (5$ /500Ko) are
a bit steep to me, i would like to see better prices on GPRS and data
but chances are i wont, and since there is only 2 player left in Canada,
think i never will.

Maybe my comment was misleading. I only used the alphanumeric pager as a
numeric pager. The alph part came in when I received emails or sent myself
a text message from the net. I now have only a little numeric pager and
have prepaid it for a year. I believe the renewal after the year is $79.99
for another year which includes unlimited paging and voicemail.

I am in Edmonton. I dealt with a lady named Sharon. Look under the Pagenet
offices for the Edmonton number if she can be a help to you.

P.S. I moved here 8 years ago from Toronto. Best moved I ever made. :)

They don't.

They weren't a chain, just a one-of store...

$79.99 for the pager and three months of service, after that it's
~$13/month for unlimited numeric and unlimited email.
