FiringSquad BF2 perfromance review

Some interesting results. I always hate the use of 8x AF without 16X. Why go half-A$$ed?

Some pretty slow results at high res + AA/AF. Interesting how nV is slower w/ AA but with AA+AF they're significantly faster.

But they don't run 16xAF, only 8x.

With previous reviews we've seen the GF6 series come out strong with 8X AF but when moving to 16x suddenly things are equal again.

I still haven't figured out why that is, and guessing would just cause issues. :wink:

Well the funny thing is that these results go a little differently to those AMD Zone found with an X800XL-512mb.

At no point was the GT leading in their tests, and even with 8XAF there was a huge gap in performance in this time the opposite direction;

Does 512mb make that much difference?

They don't mention what Graphics drivers they use for the nV cards, just the nforce mobo drivers, and the Catalysts are 5.6, so maybe it's an old driver issue with the nV's.

I heard the resolution is higher than VGA!
Oh and it reminds me of video card's name: GeForce 8800 QUXGA-W sounds right!

There's been a recent monitor that can out with high megapixel resolutions too. I forget who did it though. They're good for designs but you can forget having a desktop without a magnifier tool ready.

but with AA+AF they're significantly faster.
I believe you mean that in relation to their previous performance, because if you meant versus the ATis, except for 2048*1536 they aren't "SIGNIFICANTLY" faster, just more competitive.

That said, there seems to be issues with the highest resolution, in terms of performance drop. The consistency is way off when compared to the other resolution rises versus performance drops. The cards all perform much less aptly and this leads me to think that the highest resolution needs some more optimizing on DICE's part.

Uh didn't you read the other thread that said it was strictly for DX8.1 and above?

Well the Deltas are large, not the framerates.

Semantics really, but still stenge compared to the norm of other reviews. At ultra high resolution, the performance falls of the table.

We'll have to see what the final product has to offer June 23. :cool:
