I am trying to install Win 98 SE on brand new Dell Dimension 8300. It works up until the point where it needs to do its final reboot. If I then restart I can go into safe mode and then by installing the Intel inf files it will allow me to reboot back into normal mode at which point it will load all the motherboard reources. Reboot once they are done and it hangs after the Win 98 loading screen but I can still reboot back into safe mode. My machine has a P4HT and Serial ATA. Is it possible that either of these are causing the problems.

Hard to say what's causing the problem, but if you mail the system to me, I'll get it going and creat a restore disk for you.

Windows 98 won't have support for hyperthreading; but I'm not sure if that's the root cause of your problem. Dell probably doesn't give you the option of turning it off, either. Another reason to build your own and stay away from OEMs.

Not even in the BIOS.
Or BIOS does not exists in DELL systems.

Sometimes Win98 has problems with large Hard Drive capacities. Upgraded fdisk files are available for large hard drives, etc.

Also, keep away from those PC's that are bulk produced. They are usually difficult to upgrade.
Better to custom build a PC with all the components you want from a reputable "smaller" PC company.
