Upgrading graphics card and bottlenecks

After playing the Battlefield 2 Demo on my PC (Asus A7V8X-X, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1 Gig of Ram and GeForce FX5900 AGP) for a while, I've come to the conclusion I need to upgrade. First of all, if I were to install a 6800GT or X800XL in my rig, would my processor cause a major bottleneck? Second of all, does anyone think I'd be able to run Battlefield 2 on high settings, 1024x768, no AA or AF? I can understand if no one could answer the second question, but I really need an answer for the first and would greatly appreciate any help.

Going from a 5900 to a X800XL or 6800GT would give you a huge increase. However yes those two cards would be bottlenecked by your CPU. The question is whether it's worth spending that much on those cards for how they'd be bottlenecked. If I were you I'd just get a 6600GT, X800pro or a 6800nu and try unlocking the pipes. That's just my opinion though others might have better advice.

Hmmm..... well, thanks for telling me that. I was considering upgrading my entire system, but wanted to see if I'd be able to get away with just doing the graphics card. I have another question: with Nvidia releasing their new cards soon, how much of a price drop do you think there will be on the 6800GT PCI-e?
