No certification for that, just gotta get experience. And fiber optic cable is pretty hard to set up right.

cat5 is a sinch, you would benefit from a net + class if you want. the only thing you have to worry about when installing cat 5, is kinking it or cutting it too short. you dont want to splice them, thats bad. if you cut it too short put ends on them and use a coupler.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.

Net + doesn't really go over making cables except for CAT5.

There's not, you just gotta learn fiber at work or on your own. Just saying Network+ wouldn't teach him what he wanted, i just got through with it myself =).

It goes over making CAT 5 cables, but that's about it. Might be some more that i didn't do cause i'm kinda just going ahead of the class hehe, thier still doing A+. Doing MCSE now, it's a A+, Network+ and MCSE class all in 1.

Yea little over a year. Pretty nice since there's only 5 people in the class and we got a whole lab to ourselves hehe.

How much did that class cost?
i just studied a book to get a+ and though effective, that can be bland, id rather take a class for other certifications

Ok well imagine this, got to go down the hall to the CCNA class today and they had a Communications Tech in there from SBC showing us all about fiber and stuff.

There is a certification for Fiber but it's more of a thing you do through your employer. Fiber stuff is pretty specialized, and the equipment is really expensive. He had a OTDM in there that was 30 grand and something new called a PDM that was 150 grand. Not to mention all the other little things you need that cost 100-400$.
