FartCry patch 1.32 hints at ATi vs nV SM3.0 issues

Well in the calm before the storm of release date info, I found this interesting;

A need to change the code to fix SM3.0 path for ATi cards hmm? It will be interesting to see why this may have been (HDR FP32+ vs FP16?, VS branching?).

So Crytek's had an R520 for a while it would seem. Do you have one too Grape? Where's mine, I feel so left out. :tongue:

I never really thought about it, but it could be interesting to see how smooth ATI's move to SM3 will be.

Well you know the big boys have it (and girls [friend at EA probably has one I should ask her]) to make sure that the R520 launch is no problemo. And from what I've heard, there are quite a few people out there who already have their hands on early engineering samples.

As for the transition for ATi it might not be an issue of smooth so much as different, just like PS2.0A vs 2.0B.
If Crytek did only what was necessary to get their 'SM3.0' effects to work on the NV40 you may have seen some shortcuts taken when it was bolted on to the original engine. It may also be that they need to tweak feature adds, just look at how patch 1.2 to add the first batch of SM3.0 optimizations f'ed up previously working ATi cards/drivers.
