Hi,

I am trying to install Windows XP Home for a friend. I set the BIOS up to
boot from CD and inserted the Windows XP install CD. When the PC boots up I
get the following error message: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5.

The CD ROM spins up and sounds like its working fine. It was working fine
before I tried to install.

Any ideas? What does error code 5 mean?

Thankyou

Eugene

Your friend's hardware components / the RAM memory / or BIOS may be the issue here.
Is the hardware ok & up to the requirements of running XP?

Check the hardware & peripherals (especially modem, SCSI, ATA-disk-controllers,
USB devices) on the compatibility list...

On the XP setup disks (diskettes): Get the set that is right for Home or Pro, and for the service pack level of the specific XP CD version. At this time, there are sets for original XP gold, XP service pack 1, and XP service pack 2.

I have solution.

You need Vista install DVD. Boot Vista Installation, choose Language press next and than press "Repair my computer". On next window u will have few options, choose "command promt". Remove Vista DVD and insert Windows 7 Install DVD. Navigate to DVD (for example d: or e:, depends on your drives setting, than go to folder sources (type "cd sources" ), and type "setup". Installation will start shortly. Now just follow instructions :)

Good luck

Hi all,
Is everyone using the 32bit Win7? These solutions only work with matching versions 32bit Vista = 32bit Win7 64bit Vista = 64bit Win7. I have 32bit XP & Vista but new 64bit Win7 (new 64bit cpu so 64bit OS). Any other ideas?

The Answer is to us the Ultimate Boot Disk free to download. boot from this boot disk. Navigate to Smart Boot Disk Manager in the pop up window move to select the cd drive, now remove Ultimate boot disk and replace it with Windows & Disk, hit enter and windows 7 will begin to load. Oh make sure you are using a DVD drive to boot from.
