I'm trying to create an XP Home boot disk b/c for some reason or another the BIOS on my mobo isn't dectecting my CD-RW or DVD-ROM. Therefore I can't install the O/S. Just wondering how do I go about doing this. I tried to download from the Microsoft website, but I get a message that says the destination drive doesn't have enough space. Please advise. Thanks.

Boot disks for Win XP requires several floppies. If I were you I'd download a boot disk for Win 98 (from bootdisk.com) and go from there. That will give you access to your CD drive.

 My CPU runs so hot it creates a quark-gluon plasma

I think you are skipping a step, by trying to install the OS before discovering why the BIOS isn't detecting your optical devices. You might have a bad IDE cable, a bent connector, misconfigured jumper settings, or some kind of problem simply because both devices are on the same cable, if one of them is damaged, etc.

However, if nothing you try works:

I think at this point, my only option is to use a Windows 98 boot disk. Ive checked the jumper settings, cables and I even connected the optical drives to the primary ide connector and they read fine. Its just the secondary ide thats not reading anything. Has anyone ever ran into this problem?

Splendid
is the secondary controller disabled in the bios? Make sure both are enabled. If you do an auto detect in bios what does it say for the cd roms?
The 98/me boot disk should load drivers for the cdrom so you can check if it works from dos.
