Well, the issue is one of time. I have been struggling with the daunting idea of updating the whole thing, but if anything I should update part of it (with the latest info), however I've also been trying to decide whether to wait for a new computer to do new tests on and then hopefully run a series with old hardware versus new.

As for no one making nV driver comparo, no one is being stopped from doing so. I don't think my FX5200GO would be a good indication of driver benifits as the FX series is pretty much abandoned and the 5200 is pretty much the worst of that series. If you read the older parts of that (I linked to them within the new one) you will see that this grew out of a weekend lookee experiment. Should anyone want to do an nV one (or XGI ) then that would be great.

Right now I've decided to update when I get new gear, and in doing so do a fresh install on the old system (almost a waste of time doing it but the results may be interesting), then we'd see if there were more benifits related to new hardware.

As for the thread it's not locked, you can still post to it, but it is stickied. Some people find that a problem if they don't change their thread view from 5 or whtever the default is to 25.

Anywhoo, if people think it should be removed I have no problem with that.

I would recommend some muriatic acid to burn off the blisters, and then a rusty straight razor to remove any remnants, then some salt and iodine to make sure the area is clean.

Of course removal of the region may also be a quick solution.

when i finish with the 6800, do u want it for free so you can do a nvidia one, but you will have to wait untill the end of this year and its a agp version not PCIE i also have a geforce 3 ti200 if u want that now.

there is a couple of problems with the nvidia 6800 dont let it go above 75c otherwise you get artifacts, i have it water cooled and it has been heavily abused and bios modded but i will set everything to stock before you get it just remind me in december to send it you.

Well I could do that. The thing about it is that by that time the GF6800 will be non-current as well, so not sure how people will feel about it (got enough grief about it being an R9600P). Time is still the biggest factor for me, but the later summer months may be a little freer.

Thank you for the offer I will let you know as the time approaches. As it's AGP I would likely grab an XP3000+ from a friend and then update the old gaming system as the new system will definitely be PCIe only.

Of course if people decide simply to remove the comparo that's fine too. I just can't guarantee dedication to it unfortunately. However once I do start the update I'll probably do Cat 5.1 5.4 and 5.6 type thing since they are the most current and most current fallbacks. Still I want to ge thhe new system started before worrying about it. I game far more at work on the Xbox in our lounge than any other form.

I'll let you know one way or the other.

by the way i am serious, later this year i will be changing my personal rig, i made a 939/x800xt setup for my sister and my xp2600 OC/6800 is not cutting it for my needs i could even send u the processer it will be no good to me in december.

Sure sounds good. I will let you know as your time approaches whether I see myself having the time to do the comparison justice.

Just another thing, when I do get the Comparison updated (wish I had time over CanadaDay weekend) then I will be on CoolS and Spitfire to update the Buyer's Guide as they missed the whole era of the X800XL. :lol:

Speaking of which I should get the ATi list ready for update, and personally I have different feelings about some of the nV card builders than is in there, but I think I'll leave that to the others. When that happens I'll post my 'ATi mfrs list here first to get some feedback too.

Anywhoo, we'll discuss in the fall.
