Hi, i've got an odd problem that I haven't been able to fix, and was looking
for suggestions (and hopefully, an answer).
My hard drive, although it already has XP installed, will keep going into
the XP installation frontend, instead of simply booting up. I suspect some
kind of boot-record is messed up, or there are a few key files missing.,
The problem started when I was trying to stall Windows2000 Pro on a 2nd
hard-drive that I put temporarily into the computer. I selected the new
hard drive to recieve the W2K install, which failed a little bit before
completion.
There is no possible way that I selected the first hard drive to recieve the
formats/install, I am 100% accurate about that. (maybe the 2k installation
program code changes things at "C:" by default..?)
There are files still on the hard drive that I cannot do without, so I
cannot format. Does reinstalling XP from the CD automatically
format/partition the drives? I'm too scared to try it.
If anyone has any suggestions, or has an idea of what direction I should go
from here, it would definately be most appreciated.
Cheers,
Adam
