The following message shows when I try to run a disk defrag.
Defrag of C: has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in
filesystem. Please run CHKDSK or Scandisk on C: to repair these
inconsistencies.

I'm not sure where to fond Checkdisk or Scandisk, and why this problem has
occured.

go to 'Start / 'Run' and type ' CHKDSK /f ' (without the quotes). It will
tell you the disk cannot be locked and ask if you want it to run on the next
startup. Select 'Y' and hit enter and then reboot.

Hi,

Right click the drive in Windows Explorer, select properties. You will find
"error checking" on the tools tab.

When a defragger is running, it tries to move files but may come
across bad areas on the disk, which is when it prompts you to run
CHKDSK. Are you using the Windows built -in? Even after CHKDSK if
defrag fails, you could try some third party tool.
