Hi! I need help choosing a vid card. I have a budget of around $250 maximum and would like to spend around $170 atleast for a good respectable card. I was thinking a GeForce 6600GT? or a Radeon X800? I am not sure whether they are even comparable in terms of performance, but I have a few figures. The 6600GT has a core clock of 500 MHz and 8 pipelines (which i don't really like). And so that gives it a Fill rate of 4 million pixels/s? (or 4 billion..) and the Radeon X800 has a lower clock of 400 MHz and 12 pipelines (which i like) to give it a Fill rate of 4.8 million. But i checked on 3d Benchmark results that the 6600GT has relatively higher results on average. I know it also depends of system but it just looks like teh X800 performs more badly. The X800 is still going for a higher price than the 6600GT. And another question, since the X800 has a lower clock, can i OC it alot higher? I also hear it runs pretty cool.
Thanks in advance!

The X800 easily outperforms the GF6600GT. Just check prices because often the full 16-pipe X800XL isn't much higher and is in a whole different league performance wise.

My choice for $250 (pCI-e) is a bargain on a X800XL like <A HREF="http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190527&AFFIL=pricewatch&NR=1" target="_new">this one for $249 with free shipping at Monarch</A>.

Damn that's a great price on a X800XL. Is this price a result of the 7800GTX or have they been at $250 for a while?
