sorry lads but what with moving twice in the last month and a half I only
had time for boro and not for you. Forgive me.

Anyway, after 1222 days at the helm of Boro, midway through the fourth
season, I left to take over Millwall and here's why.

Boro had an extremely good run. I left them sitting in 7th in D2 with a
large bank account and a miserly bunch of bastards running the board. In two
seasons we had three extremely lucrative away cup ties at Man U, Arsenal and
Leeds, netting Boro a 2M euro profit. Great, except the board wouldn't
expand the stadium, my wages budget or my transfer budget over 90K. Even
with this vein of cash I was still several thousand over my wages budget and
Cherrywood Road was packed every home match, 4000+ fans. I figured with
three years with over 90% attendance the board would get off there arses and
realise we had a chance at making D1 in a year or two with a team that could
stay there but no. I'd made some choice purchases but the trade off for
getting and keeping a free transfer is the high wages. I figured when I got
into the top half of D2 the club's potential would be realised. All I could
really do was give free transfers to the deadwood and given I can't find
them anymore I'm assuming players like Matthew Beale, Matthew Beall (to
Beale or not to Beall was a little joke of mine when it came to selecting
the midfield.) or Sean Bartram are lying in a gutter outside of Wembly right
now.

With the purchases of Lloyd Opara, Jordan Hall, Gavin Bassinder, Ian Hughes
and John Paul Mills, the evergreen stalwarts Dean Green, Danny Potter, Danny
Hooper, Anthony Charles and Nick Burton, and the young Phil Matthews, David
Cox, David Andrews and Sean Phillips I had a team that had the balance of
quick fixes, loyal henchmen and new blood that couldn't fail to look down on
half of D2. I never had to change tactics except in the event of a sending
off. Andy Ritchie became my assistant manager and was carving out
respecatble results for the reserves and U19's. But now all the players
wanted more money and the board wasn't going to give it.

Then Millwall hit 20th in the Premier League and Steve Staunton got the
arse. So I thought why not. Geographically, as I've since found Farnborough
lies between Southampton and London, it wasn't a big move. So, packing up my
virtual wife and kids, who we're sending to a virtual boarding school, we
high tailed it to London where I found the Millwall squad was exclusively
DC's and AMC's with barely a goalie, winger, fullback or striker among them.
Staunton had indeed made some eccentric buys and most had to be axed when it
became apparant no one wanted them. Johnathon Blondel, bought for 6.5M went
for half that, and Bob Peeters announces his retirement and changes his mind
on a weekly basis and he's too expensive to give a free to. But Mario
Melchiot and Nigel Reo-Coker had been bought so it wasn't all bad and after
cutting the dead flesh away and restructuring the side we got out of
relegation, made it to tenth and won the FA cup in a penalty shootout with
Leeds, who missed their first three penalties. I found winger Aboubaka
Fofana made a great striker. He had no goals when I got there and finished
with 20. Cherno Samba finished with 17. Neither had played a single game
until I showed up. Neil Harris made Emil Hesky look good and Paul Ifill had
an incredible knack of missing open goals from inside the six yard box with
time to cook a hard boiled egg between his first touch and the strike.

Since then I've made a few purchases but Millwall was so overstocked it
wasn't necessary but I did buy Ivan Hurtado, Matej Grah, Gael Clichy, Marian
Pahars, Tugay (as a player/coach) and Stephen Pearson and now we're fifth.
We got nocked out of UEFA by PSV after going into the away leg with a 2-0
lead. I almost cried watching the back four part like the Red Sea before
Moses each time a PSV striker got the ball. We lost 4-1. Anyway, we're
halfway through the season and I think another bash at UEFA is definately in
our sights.

So here's my first choice line up and subs for Millwall.

GK Kelvin Davis
DR Mario Melchiot
DL Gael Clichy
DC Mark Phillips
DC Ivan Hurtado (c)
MR Paul Ifill
ML Stephen Pearson
MC Daniel Tozser
MC Tim Cahill
SC Cherno Samba
SC Aboubaka Fofana

subs
GK Matej Grah
SC Marian Pahars
M Nigel Reo-Coker
M Peter Sweeney
D Paul Robinson

I'll be buying Sylvan Wiltord soon as another player/coach. He's not happy
at Newcastle.

Oh, and Australia asked me to manage them. Now there's a useless bunch.
Kewell runs around the sidelines looking for autographs to sign, Bresciano
could probably keep a night on the lager down better than his long range
shots, Viduka's zimmerframe gets in the way of his shots, there isn't a
defender with positioning higher than 13, and the goalies are all about to
retire en masse leaving me with replacements that no club has hired for the
best part of two seasons. However, winger Massimo Murdocca, previously
uncapped, has been a revelation and I might have him join John Aloisi up
front so Viduka can spend more time finding a retirement home. I'm thinking
of buying the young lad for Millwall. And bloody Tim Cahill's retired from
international football and he's the best damn Aussie midfielder there is.

If anyone can recommend some decent Australian players then please...

til next time,

Qwerty.

Yup, his other personality has sometimes done a great job, and if I
remember correctly Leeds once rejected a £14 mill bid from Milan after the
mighty Leeds had reached the quarter (semi??) finals in the CL....

Wow, hey, that's a little like an Elvis sighting? Has anyone else seen a
Viduka lookalike, perhaps playing football? Perhaps you've been in your
local supermarket and heard over the PA: 'Viduka has left the building...'?
I suspect this Mark Viduka has been cloned and his full name is really Mark
One Viduka. Is there a Mark Two Viduka and maybe even a Mark Three and are
they related to Dolly the Sheep, who also played for Leeds, sporting the
number 1 jersey.

BTW, Chris Waddle now manages Farnborough, so good luck Boro, I'm with you
in spirit.

PS Does anyone know what the Farnborough jersey looks like and can send me a
picture of it, away strip too, if you could.
