So i was directed here from a previous forum where they felt the main problem was my graphics card. these are the specs i have:
AMD 64 3500 (939)
MSI RS480M2-IL (PCI-Express)motherboard
ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256mb vid card
1 gig (2x512) Corsair 400mhz ram (basically cheapest corsair ram i could get)
36gig 10,000rpm Western Digital Raptor
200gig SATA Western Digital hardrive
Good case with 4 led case fans and a 450w PSU
I'm a pretty frequent gamer and downloader. The games i play mostly right now are Vampire Bloodlines, Swat 4 and soon to be World Of Warcraft (to many people talk about it for me not to join lol). now when i play both the vampire and swat games, i still get a little lag. went into the bios to change the FSB to the 1000mhz (which the amd64 can do) but still the system doesn't seem as fast as it should. it seems slightly better than my old P4 2.53ghz system.
any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. i checked out the graphic card bench marks on here and saw that the Gigabyte Geforce 6600 GT VP 128MB got extremely good reviews and isn't to expensive. would that be a consideration for my upgrade? (even tho its about the same price as what i spent on my x700 pro lol)
is there a particular make i should look for? i'm always a little scared to go for the saphires and what not just incase they're not as good. but then again the ATI's can get a little pricey. is there a third party (gigabyte, asus, or whoever) thats makes a good X800 XL? or 6800GT or something
but definitely not looking to spend over $250 US unless its a hugely one in a life time kinda deal. jsut because i do like to game, but its not what i do most and i'd feel like an idiot since i just payed $200 for the X700 pro about 5 or 6 months ago lol.
Your not in the best situation. The X800XL is a superior card to the 700 PRO, however im afraid that your going to be dissapointed in the performace gain.
Hey guys, tell me what you think about doing something like- Instead of spending $250 - $280 on the XL which is a terrible premium he will be paying for such a small gain in performance. doesnt his situation remind you of the days that Overclocking potential didnt come at a hefty price and made a noticeable difference in performance. He could go with one of the cheaper X800 series "like the one Scott linked someone to earlier" that had really good OC potential. He may or may not get all the way to the XL level but wouldnt he get close enough that $165.00 to $180.00 would be a much better price/perforance ratio?
ASUS P5WD2 Premium
Intel 3.73 EE @ 5.6Ghz
XMS2 DDR2 @ 1180Mhz
the x800 that is 165$ and the 6800 thats 170$ do those have the same pottential as if it were an ATI X800 and a Nvidia 6800?
that X800 XL from monarch does look tempting. i just wanna make sure that i should go with that as apposed to the 6800. just because of the poor performance the X700 Pro has given me (well at least poor compared to what i thought i would get out of a $200 vid card 6 months ago)
sorry lol i basically meant, you know how like a saphire 6800 may not be as good as say a gainward 6800 or something? i meant that. if they're going for so cheap, i just would have assumed that their not the top of the line 6800 and x800. but its hard to tell which are and which aren't sometimes.
ya i think i'm gonna end up getting that Connect3d X800 XL from monarch computers. 249$ is pretty good. plus it ships to Canada $$ so it'll probably be clost to $310 Canadian. which is still pretty damn good compared to ncix.com same vid card for 399$ canadian and tigerdirect.ca selling it for 391$ canadian. gotta take advantage of the deals lol
[-peep-] seriuosly? i didn't know it was that much. i bought my whole computer system from the states, and i know they charged me alot extra, but my mom took care of the bill and i payed her back so i never payed attention to that extra stuff.
