Crossfire possible with X700 and even X300 cards

No mention of the new X500 but I don't see why not;

This could make things interesting for the cheap X700Pros especially as potential upgrade path.

Forget X700PRO, did you see the freakin' results for the X850 in 3dMark and DOOM III?

Holy crap the thing often does 90% and above, and in a few cases, 99% or even 100%+!

This could well be the SLi killer after all.

UPDATE: Jesus H Christ it even does that with the X700PRO too!

Article's been pulled I think (or moved).

I should've captured it, but you never really expect this type of thing and you know hindsight-20/20 and all.

Fixed old link above.

And I think You and Wusy should check out the iRAM review linked to on that page too (InQ mentioned it yesterday but no info).

Hmm am I the only one seeing an issue with the startup time with the iRAM? I mean, it is over 5 times faster than the HDD's bootup bandwidth but yet it only is twice faster at booting.

Well I don't think it's an arithmetic translation of performance. You likely have alot of things that can only go so much faster. The idea of instant on OS may be challenged by these cards, it'd be interesitng to see the Linux performance, especially with something without so much bloat as Windows.

On second thought, maybe it's normal after all. Any high bandwidth technology immediately suffers when it deals with multiple file transfers. In this case, Windows is loading tons of small files and drivers. Dunno why it has such an effect on latency as to make it take time between each file transfer and to get a sustained speed, if it ever reaches close to the theoretical max.

Special motherboard?
Not that I know of. It's a PCI extension card.
and when the 520 core is released will it bump the proce of the x800 down by like a $100?
No one knows yet.
and approx when will the 520 core be released? ( in a month or 2?)

You're asking what we're all asking too.

You need one X800XL that is known as CrossFire Edition and one regular, to make the setup work.

Also knows as Master card and Slave card.

Well what the article proves is that you don't need the specific setup, however you may find limitations, like I don't think you can do the checkerboard Xfire redering without the dongle.

Anyways don't rely on any of the non master/slave setup as ATi will likely work on disabling it, but you may still have the benifit of people making hacked drivers that'll make it work somewhat, but may lack some features like I mentioned.
