I'm working on a Spy Hunter. Got the game to come up. It plays, picture
is totally blurred and you can't see anything. I'm wondering if any of
you actually came across a totally blurred game and capped it and the
picture came back totally. I'll wind up capping this bugger but never
saw such a blurred picture.

it could....
dumb question... have you adjusted the focus pot on the flyback? does it do
anything? you could have a bad focus pot on you're fly.

your flyback is dying, only way to really tell is to take a reading with
high voltage probe or use a flyback tester, or the convergence is off cause
someone messed with the rings, I just had one where a guy gave me a 13 inch
monitor out of a centipede cocktail, it was bad, real bad, made me want to
throw the whole thing out, then noticed rings were messed with. Pulled out
the go7 book and spent an hour tweaking it and looks almost like new.

It might help, but I'd be more concerned with other things, like what
kind of shape the monitor is in, burn, etc.
I had a K4600 that needed the focus pot on the flyback replaced. Luckily
you can do that on a K4600. Who knows? You might need a new flyback.

Followup question.... how does the flyback effect focus? I thought
that it's sole purpose was to generate the excessively hight voltage
needed for the tube to display the image? Is the flyback output votage
directly effect the focus of he image?

The flyback generates a number of voltages.... the *really* high voltage
goes to the second anode and is used to siphon off electrons from the
monitor (you have a gun in the back shooting (-) charged electrons at the
front... eventually you build up a bunch of them and they deflect the
electrons that are being aimed in the front... hence the need to draw them
off).
The flyback also generates two other high voltage's, screen (or brightness)
which is used to accelerate the electrons from the back to the front (more
voltage, brighter picture) and the focus voltage which is used to create a
magnetic lens, which in conjunction with permanent magnets confine and focus
the electron beam.

one thought John, does the picture get brighter/darken when you change
focus? You could have a screen/focus short...
have you checked the tube to see if there are other shorts?

O.K...... Basically, here's what happens. I could adjust the brightness
and get the screen to go bright and pitch dark. If I adjust the focus,
it does seem to go up and down but the screen is totally blurred. Can't
make out the picture. I could faintly see it but it is way out of wack.
The screen has traditional spy hunter screen burn, but not overly bad.
I've seen a lot worse. The center of the screen appears to be a big
black square. The rest of the surrounding area looks blurred. I have a
funny feeling that the cap kit may help. I guess I'll try it and will
report back. My other question is, this is a WG4900 monitor. Is this a
special type of WG4900 or can I just put a G07 in here and call it a
day?

sounds like you have a focus/screen short in the tube... I don't think a
cap kit would help.
just swap it out for the g07
