leave it... unless you create a stencil you'll never color match and it will
always look like you tried to fix it...

(of course I *LIKE* the used look... I dont' restore my games in general but
let them have that used *arcade* look to them).

That is actually in pretty good condition. Mamemarquees.com sells good
side art and you can probably find the side art image at
localarcade.com. It's pretty expensive though.

Problem with painting on this is it won't come out neatly perfect, but
it'll be cheap. Other then sanding it all down, repainting, and
applying new side art I don't know how you can get perfect results
though.

And by any chance, do you know where to find a master of this side art ?
Maybe I can find companies to make new ones from a neat jpg or bmp file ;-)

I don't think your chances of finding NOS sideart for a Hang On are very
good. I'm in the same postion as you with my Space Harrier Sim, one side is
not too clever and the rear of the seat ain't too nice either my machine has
had a hard life!!! I don't think anyone is likely to repro the side art
either, you could try scanning it into your computer, touch it up in a paint
package and then try and get a sign company to print it for you.

Regards

no... if you really want to restore it your best bet would be to create your
own stencil's using the existing artwork on your machine as a template.

Though it's a time consuming task, I guess it's the best solution.
I could find great artwork out there (thanks tribalredfox for the the
links), but none of them with a Hang On sideart.
Looks like I found something to make in holidays ;-)

Thanks all for the advice.

What would be an appropriate type of scanner for such a job?

Thanks

for something like this.. unless you can get the art off the side your best
bet is a 3 mega pixel or higher camera and photoshop (or similar program)

take close up photos ofe the artwork in sections. then piece them together
likea puzzle in photoshop.
from there you can either clean them up in photoshop or i'd recommend
tracing them in illustrator, etc.

photoshop does have vector ability that can be exported to illustrator later
if you choose.

since it's unlikely your photos will be 1:1 scale at a high enough
resolution, you'll need to create a vector illustration of it so when
resizing larger, you wont get pixellation.

hope that helps. if you want to take some photos and send them over, i can
probably bang that side out really quick since there's no illustration on
it.. just text.
