Is it just me or are they nuts on their high end gamer at Sharkey's. I mean $2500 USD budget not including tax and shipping, and the rig has a single PCI-e GF6800GT and a 17" LCD!!!! Step aside Speedy and let the THGC show you how it's done. Anyone else think they could put that $2500+ to better use? Sorry, but any $2500 gamer I built would have a 7800GTX in it, and if he wanted to cheap out, a X800XL would have saved him $100 to put toward something else. Maybe next time he'll fit a 7800GT in it at least. I tell ya, it's almost as bad as The VEDE who put a Audigy 2 ZS in every gamer and only managed to get a 9600XT into a $1500 computer (back when I suscribed to PCGamer). That's One sweet sounding slide show Greg.

Side note, it's 2:00AM and I just finished a bunch of benchmarking. I need to go to sleep as I am a sarcastic ungrateful grouch it would seem.

To each their own. I personally agree with you. Fact is that most people already have an OS and would put that money towards the 7800.

If you're dropping $2500 you might as well drop $3000 and get a 24" LCD like me :)

The 7800GTX and your monitor would be very nice. I agree that an extra $500 would come in handy and i am sure he would have put a 7800GTX in if he had that much room. Keeping to his budget, I'd drop the cpu to an A64 4000+, and get a nice 19" CRT instead of the 17" LCD. That would save enough money right there to get the 7800GTX and be a much better high end gamer IMO. Basically a 1600x1200 4X/16X gaming machine in just about anything out there.

Instead he felt SLI future readiness was worth $100-$150 of that budget over NF4 Ultra/ X800XL, and Dual core A64 was worth more than the 7800GTX. He even dumped $50+ into the heatsink with no mention of overclocking. To me that nice XP-120 belongs on a slightly cheaper cpu but OC'ed to the max. Oh well, to each their own...I guess so.
