Both go for about the same price (close or about $200).

My current Card is ATI 9600XT 128mb.

But will My 350watt Poiwer Supply be able to handle any of them? (I got 2 dvd - dvdrw drives and 2 Hard Drives)

6800 can easily oc and match the pro, then unlock the extra 4 piplines it blasts by to be just below the 6800gt.

How likely is that, especially on newer GF6800's? The X800pro is a VIVO edition, so it could have 4 extra pipes too.

My vote X800 pro for sure. The X800 pro is by far the faster card. If the 6800 sucessfully unlocks to 16 pipes and OC's, yes, then it would easily beat a stock X800 pro. All depends if you like to gamble or just buy the better stock card. But then why not gamble your X800 pro vivo can be <A HREF="http://" target="_new">modded to XTpe</A>. X800 pro's also OC very well.

I'm not sure how succesful either mods are on current cards. Best to research it if that's what you want. otherwise go X800 pro.

Isn't the 6800 using DDR ram while the Raddy is using DDR3? In this case the ATI version will blow away the 6800 in virtually all cases. Now the 6800GT would be a different story, in that case I would recommend the 6800GT.

if you search hard enough you could end up 90 bucks richer and still have 6600gt performance from an oc version 6600 xpertvision which would roughly put it on par with a dud 6800 that you wont o/c and unlock anyways...remember now, protest qui vult.

X800pro is the safer option but why not the x800xl?

Not worth the price to upgrade from an R9600XT.

Even the plain GF6800 offers a next level of performance worthy of the upgrade, and the X800PRO even more so.

For $200, the X800 pro is a untouchabale. To get better stock performance, you would have to buy a X800XL or GF6800GT, which are far higher than $200. Matter of fact, the X800 pro was still over $300 just a few weeks ago. Not to rush your decision, but at that price I'd suspect to soon see <i>OUT OF STOCK</i>.

"Not worth the price to upgrade from an R9600XT."

au contraire,
i'd choose to differ...
i see a slight winning edge for this diamond in the rough
with anything similar ati has(old9800 or newXseries)
sparring it at this value/perf arena especially when its pushed to the 500core/1000mem o/c potential
as like with many a european and oriental brethren have been doing/experiencing without breaking a sweat.

Ressaisis-toi, mon gars!
Differ all you want, but that's only because you didn't bother to read what the poster said;

<i>"I dont like to overclock, so not considering OC'ing, which is better?"</i>

And keeping that in mind the other suggestions are far better especially in light of the performance of his current R9600XT, and the price of the X800PRO he is looking at.

like with many a european and oriental brethren have been doing/experiencing without breaking a sweat.
That's all well and good, but a more important lesson may be to focus on the question and not embellishing your answers for show.

Also, be sure that your diamond is not Moissanite, for if you spend so little time examining that which is before you, you may be fooled by the superficiality of things.

thats very adult of you...
but in case youve a not a clue as to what my first reply ended with to highlight to the poster, then i'll just take the liberty to SPELL IT OUT to you again, protest qui vult!

LOL @ U!

protest qui vult!
BTW, it's "<i><b>POTEST</b> Qui Vult</i>", you fool!

Or did you miss that too in your lack of focus while reading your book of quotes?

In case you haven't noticed, which would be par for the course, his $200 X800Pro still wins the day despite all your preening and <i>protest</i>ations, whether he has the will or not.

Vous, protest ce qu'il veut?

Whether or not his googling and spelling are superior, his hardware recommendation was superior based on the needs of the poster. No amount of Latin or daggers thrrown by you is going change that.

Once again, I chuckle in your general direction!

It's not my googling that took long as I'm quite adept at it, it's the time between breaks in the hurry up and wait at work that govern my posting.
You know work, the thing the rest of us do while you look for quotes and attempt to look witty.

Funny that you accuse me of googling, which I did do to confirm my feeling, yet you obviously fu¢ked up the quotation while trying to impress thus becoming the true definition of a poser. Perhaps googling would've helped you.

Focus on the hardware, and then google your quotes if you must, at least that way one of the two would be accurate.

I bought my 6800GT for 275.00 from New Egg. I decided on the LeadTek version for the quality construction and the quiet nature of the card. I've overclocked, but always come away with the realization that the additional FPS are either at a level that doesn't matter (too few or way plenty). Besides, if I need more, drop the rewoutio a notch and get BIG gains. All the newer cards can run plenty high resolutions to look just fine. And, a few FPS don't matter on an older board (Asus P4PE Intel 865 chipset) unless you're gunning for the sport of FPS.

But, two full version games (Splinter Cell and Prince of Perisia) made the decision for me. You see, I'd have to buy games with the ATI part and I get them free with the Nvidia part I wanted. So the cost of the "card" is somewhat offset by the freebies. The decision could go the other way depending on what game package you find. Doom III may, for instance, sway you.

The trick to procrastination is to just not do it very long.

It's all Latin to me! If nothing else, as a romance language, it is Latin-based.
