Gigabyte to launch HUGE card

Something along the lines of the size of the ASUS dual chip card, Gigabyte will launch another 3D1 card that incorporates (EDIT: 2 GF6800GTs (2x16pipes). This thing is HUGE, much bigger than the MoBo, and supposedly that's a 3 slot HSF :eek: !

Still not sure why you'd pick it over 2 SLI'ed GTXs but price could be a big factor. Now the question is whether the GF7 series cards have a different SLi control or whether they are still bound to 2 GPUs at a time?

4GTs could pose some interesting performance numbers, but likely would be heavily memory limited.

This last part doesn't apply to the card anymore, but I still wonder if they changed the segment of the chip that controls SLi.

Well in the benchies the 3D1 is ahead by about 20% over a single GTX, but it's a heck of alot of real estate, and probably heat for all that. Really the market is for people who don't want or can't get an SLi MoBo; how many of the people who would possibly by top endcards fit into that area anyways?

Single card still makes more sense to me.

True but at those resolutions are you really surprised. I doubt they are leaving the CPU-limitations at those resolutions.

I would say the benifits even in 3Dmk aren't impressive, but there's surely more to this than we see since the original 3D1 didn't show strength until the higher resolutions a AA/AF levels.

Seriously I don't understand why anyone bothers with 1280x1024 with these caliber cards, even with higher AA/AF (far from the highest though) there's little strain on the cards.

How do you read that? :tongue: I can't even see where it says it's two 7800GT's. Looks like 2 6800GT's. Oh well, no time to scrutinize the giberish. The card is a monter though. Longer than a full size mobo. Whoa.

I'm just wondering how big a case you will need to accomodate that beast...

D'oh!

I was reading the description at this point;

"Gigabyteᶉõ?„?o7800GT“I3D1”Å–{?C˜ð”ä3D1-68GT?X‹zˆø?B"

and misread it as 2 GF7800GT to make the 3D1.

Should've read near the top in the specs;
"Gigabyte 3D1-68GT (GF6800GT)"

Never find the translators to work well with Chinese (especially if you don't know which [simplified?]).
Humans far better at that. Thanks!

So as 2 GF6800GTs it's not bad, but it's going to lose out on alot of the benifits of the GF7800 architecture so no point really.

Going up to edit.

Can't get the segment of text to display properly, does OK before I hit submit post and then the characters go wonky.

You need to mount your HDD's up in the 5.25" bays to make room for it.

Yeah to me this is like Crossfiring the X850XT... Oh well, that's nice, but we could'a used this about 6+ months ago thanks!

It's nice for people who are stuck with just one slot, but really, is there that much of a market for it? Do that with AGP (which I still wonder about), and then you've got something. Imagine running this thing, through an HSI chip on an AGP port, now that would be impressive.

Eh, HolyLancer;
Thanks!
