I was wondering which would get the better FPS on Half Life 2 and Unreal 2004. A single Radeon X800XL 256MB or dual Geforce 6600GT 128MB cards. I currently have the X800XL and am very happy with it, but I would like to be able to turn my quality up a little higher and get better FPS. Or.. should I look into getting dual Geforce 6800GT 256MB cards? Which would be the best for the money? I am looking to spend $700 tops on my card/cards.

Or would I be best off just keeping the single X800XL? Would the extra money spent not really make much of a difference?

How many more FPS would I be seeing on high quality using SLI?

Thanks

look no further or backwards should i say...the 7800gtx would be your choice for the new generation as of now...read up on the truckloads of reviews out there/also keep in mind of the competitions long overdue upcoming r520s potential.

Mofo hit the nail on the head - 7800GTX. $599 USD.

what kind of fps are you looking to get??? I have the x700 Pro and i get like 50-80 fps in HL2 with the settings maxed out. Plus your brain doesnt really notice much over like 30-40 anyways

My PC:
Abit AX8 Socket 939 VIA K8T890
AMD Athlon 64 3200 Winchester
Sapphire Radeon X700 Pro 256 Mb PCIe
WD Raptor 37 Gb SATA
Corsair 2x512 PC3200 DDR Dual-Channel Platnium Edition

60FPS is considered the sweet spot for smooth gameplay..

Unless your X800Xl doesnt please you anymore, id stick with it for a little while(the same applies to your girlfriend) until the new generation of ATi and possibly the 7800Gt and ultra comes out, youll have a better picture then!

Asus P4P800DX, P4C 2.6ghz@3.25ghz, 2X512 OCZ PC4000 3-4-4-8, MSI 6800Ultra stock, 2X30gig Raid0

Personally I think multi-card solution are simply marketing gimmicks to claim the 3dmark thrones, in real life apps, they do significantly less compared to benchmark programs. A X800XL will be significantly faster than 2 6600gt in any game, well expect Doom3 and OpenGL games, Nvidia dominates those.

Stick with ur X800XL for now

when ATi & Nvidia have finished releasing their cards/boards, pick then... dont jump ship just because ur feet r getting itchy...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

I like the idea of multi-cards solutions (I always have), but I think they are better for Workstation environments, and surround gaming situations.
Geez, why doesn't someone license THAT technology!?!
I see more tangible benifts from that now than running 1920x1440 with 8xAA, especially with monitor prices as low asthey are.

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp <i>(or internet account)</i> ! - <A HREF="http://www.redgreen.com/" target="_new"><font color=green>RED </font color=green> <font color=red> GREEN</font color=red></A> GA to SK
